I’m Alexis Chan Langbehn, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LF61493643) based in Seattle, WA. Serving clients located in Washington State.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I am passionate about strengthening relationships and empowering people to find a sense of confidence, security, and peace in their daily lives. It is an honor to walk alongside couples, families, and individual clients in their journey towards healing and connection.
As a Chinese American, I value the layers of complexity in each person's identity. I understand how one's culture, race, ethnicity, sexuality, and unique upbringing shapes who they are in the therapeutic room. I have a specific interest in working with interracial couples and helping them to develop a richer understanding of their partner and their relationship given these cultural complexities.
I completed my Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA. My therapeutic experience includes working in community mental health, a university setting, with children on the autism spectrum, and in private practice.
In my free time I enjoy exploring the city, hiking, cooking and spending time with my family and friends!
I believe that humans are inherently relational.
When two of our attachment needs for love and safety are violated or left unmet, we can experience loneliness, low self-worth, and mistrust in relationships. Many of us learn to cope with this pain by utilizing maladaptive strategies (distracting, withdrawing, blaming etc.)-- coping responses that ultimately leave us hurting and even further disconnected from our loved ones.
My focus in therapy is to highlight the cycles of pain you may find yourself and/or your relationship in, and to assist you in building greater self-awareness and sustainable coping strategies. Building new cycles and patterns of responding can help you to act in moments of distress rather than react. My hope is that you can leave therapy embodying a new way of living-- with greater self-compassion and deeper connection in your relationships.
My therapeutic style is warm, dynamic, and interactive. I hold space for my clients to be heard and held, while also creating safety in the therapeutic relationship to challenge and direct as necessary. I desire to equip each client with the skills necessary to practically effect change in their lives and to create their own found sense of confidence, self-compassion, and connection to their loved ones.
